HDD+SSD computers
HDD+SSD (2 drives)
— computers equipped with two drives at once — classic hard disk drive (HDD) and solid-state SSD module. Note that in this case we can talk about both regular SSD and more advanced drive — Optane or Fusion Drive. See "HDD+Optane" and "HDD+Fusion Drive" for details on the last two options; here we will consider the general features characteristic of all HDD + SSD combinations.The main point of such combination is to combine the advantages of both types of drives and partially compensate for the disadvantages. So, HDD is convenient to use for large volumes of data that do not require high access speed (a typical example is music and video files): with solid volumes, such storages are inexpensive. In turn, the presence of an SSD allows you to increase the overall speed of working with data. The classic way to use such module is to store information for which high access speed is important (system files, work programs, etc.). However, there is another option — the work of the SSD as an intermediate buffer for the hard drive, which allows you to speed up access to frequently requested data and some other information (this option, in particular, is typical for Optane modules). All these details should be clarified separately; however, anyway, the HDD + SSD bundle will work faster than regular hard drive and cost less than an SSD module with the same capacity.
